ARTIST STATEMENT

 As an artist I record my most important visual experiences, not in journals or diaries, but on canvas.  The work in this show is an accumulation of what I hold dear, what excites me, what I want to explore more deeply, or just what needs to be remembered.

The painting process is a way of holding on to these visual memories: atmosphere, space, light, emotions. Drawing and painting are meditations on what is wonderful about life. As an expressive realistic painter I reserve the right to alter reality, and sometimes to give myself artistic license to create balance within the facts.

BIOGRAPHY

I grew up in Pottstown, PA and studied art education at Kutztown State College (now Kutztown University). I taught art in the Ithaca City Schools for many years. Recently I moved to the Trumansburg area to enjoy its quiet pastoral beauty of open fields and wooded areas.

It wasn’t until my children were grown that I began to paint seriously, studying with Jillian Pedderson-Krag and then traveling to more exotic locations like La Rochelle, France; Taos, New Mexico; and Dingle, Ireland to experience new atmospheres and approaches to painting.

I’ve been with the State of the Art Gallery in Ithaca for more than 20 years, enjoying the comradery of fellow artists and the discipline of showing my work regularly.

Please join us for an artist’s reception on Saturday November 16th from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm.

Some of the featured artwork is available for sale directly from the artist. The artist will donate 20% of all art work purchased from the current exhibition to the Ulysses Philomathic Library.
