Library of Things

UPL is happy to offer a collection of “things” beyond our traditional collection of books and periodicals! These items are available for checkout to any registered card holder in good standing, on a first-come first-served basis, but not reserveable or deliverable.

As with all library items, the borrowing patron is responsible for returning the item in the same condition they found it and will be charged if the item is lost or returned damaged. Some items have special care instructions attached.

  • Get free seeds at your library!

    UPL has a new seed library, through a partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County. Come by and check it out, any time we’re open!

    How to use the Seed Library:

    • Take only what you will use

    • Limit two seed packets per family per visit

    • Stay tuned for more information on upcoming seed saving workshops!

    How to donate seeds:

    • Fill out the blank seed packet with as much information as you can

    • Leave the packet in the donation box

  • The following kits may be borrowed for a three-week period. These kits are kept in different areas around the library; ask a staff member if you can’t find what you’re looking for!

    • Math & Movement

  • The following cookware kits may be borrowed for a three-week period. Borrowers are responsible for cleaning the items after use; each kit contains instructions on how to wash the item so it is ready for the next borrower. All kits are located in our “Love of Learning” island near the public computers.

    • Food Dehydrator

    • Food Strainer & Sauce Maker

  • The following passes may be borrowed for a one-week period. Borrowers must check out the physical item in order to utilize its benefits. Passes are located behind the circulation desk. Patrons may call the library to check availability but we do not hold these items or create waitlists.


    EMPIRE PARK PASSES

    Six (6) Empire Passes for New York State Parks are available.

    Empire Passes provide unlimited day-use vehicle entrance to New York State Parks for that period. The lost pass fee is $80.

    SCIENCENTER PASSES

    Four (4) Sciencenter passes are available.

    Sciencenter Passes provide free admission to the Sciencenter for up to two adults and their children, all living in the same household. Patrons must provide their library card and photo ID when they arrive for their visit in order to receive free admission.

    The membership card cannot be used to access other locations in the ASTC network of museums, or for discounts on Sciencenter Store purchases, birthday parties, mini-golf, or summer camp. The lost pass fee is $85.

    CORNING MUSEUM OF GLASS PASSES

    Two (2) passes to the Corning Museum of Glass are available.

    These passes provide free admission for two (2) adults to the Corning Museum of Glass. Children and teens 17 and under are always free! Patrons must provide the pass and their library card to the admissions desk upon arrival. The lost pass fee is $60.

    MOST PASSES

    Two (2) passes to the Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) are available.

    MOST Passes provide free admission to the museum for up to six individuals in any combination of adults, children, and seniors. Pass users may purchase discounted tickets for ExploraDome movies, and utilize the 10% discount in the Science Shop. Patrons must provide the pass and their library card upon arrival. The lost pass fee is $60.

    RMSC PASSES

    Two (2) passes to the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) are available.

    RMSC Passes provide free admission for up to two adults and two children, all living in the same household. Patrons must provide the pass and their library card and upon arrival. The lost pass fee is $60.

    PRI PASS (Cayuga Nature Center & The Museum of the Earth)

    One (1) Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) Library Access Pass is available to patrons.

    The PRI Pass provides free admission to the Cayuga Nature Center and/or the Museum of the Earth for the cardholder and their family. The lost pass fee is $60.

    HANGAR THEATRE PASS

    One (1) Hangar Theatre Pass is available.

    The Hangar Theatre Pass provides free admission to any Hangar Theatre Company Mainstage or KIDDSTUFF performance with up to three guests.

    The borrowing patron must contact the Box Office to reserve their tickets ahead of time. Patron must present the Hangar Theatre Pass and their library card on their desired performance date. The lost pass fee is $60.
