Beginning in Fall 2017:

For your privacy, If you are not a member of UPL, even if you are a UPL patron, you will not automatically receive a newsletter. You may opt-in to receiving your choice of print or digital newsletter  by emailing upl@trumansburglibrary.org, or by filling out a slip at the circulation desk.

If you are a member of the Ulysses Philomathic library (at any donation level) you will receive a mailed print copy of the newsletter unless you choose to receive an electronic copy instead. You may do so by selecting “paperless” on the slips at the circulation desk, or by emailing your preference to upl@trumansburglibrary.org.

Join us for a discussion of our community read book, FREE? Stories about Human Rights. Copies can be picked up at UPL, and at various businesses around Trumansburg. If you have a copy that you have finished reading, please return it to the library, or give it to a friend who hasn’t read it yet!

We invite you to share your thoughts on this collection of short stories at the library on Tuesday, August 22 at 6pm. Additional materials from Youth for Human Rights International will be available to foster further discussion. If you are unable to attend this event, but wish to share your reflections, please do so in the discussion section of the Community Read Discussion event on the Ulysses Philomathic Library’s Facebook page.

Our community read is generously funded by the Myrtle Dee Nash Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.

On September 1, our library will stop charging fines for materials returned late. September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and we invite everyone to get a library card if you don’t already have one. We invite you to celebrate with us if you do.

Thanks to Senator Tom O’Mara for a $3,000 bullet aid contribution which will help the Ulysses Philomathic Library remove one of the largest barriers to public library access: fines.

Many libraries now understand and support this radical social change, and UPL is proud to join them.  Becoming a fine free library will dramatically support our entire community by demonstrating that we are as open and welcoming as our mission implies.

We have already taken steps to encourage reading with fine free picture books and board books, and our auto-renew feature.  We want you have time to finish your reading and we trust you to return your materials in a timely manner.

Are you a reader who can afford to pay the fines that support our collection budget? Please consider a fine free membership gift which will be applied directly to our collection budget.  Your gift will work toward our library’s efforts toward a love of learning for all. Your timely return of materials will ensure that we can stay fine free into the future.

UPL is pleased to be able to offer a babysitting certification course as part of our teen summer reading programming. Participants who complete the course will be American Red Cross certified.
