The library is a registered collection site for Astronomers Without Borders’ Eclipse Glasses Donation Program. We will be collecting glasses throughout September. The glasses will be sent to schools and other institutions in countries where they’re needed but aren’t available. The next two solar eclipses across populated areas are in 2019 – a total solar eclipse in southern South America and an annular eclipse (where the Moon doesn’t quite cover the whole Sun) in southeastern Asia. But a partial eclipse will be seen throughout most of South America and southern Asia so the glasses are needed by millions. Give your eclipse glasses a second chance and return them to the library today!

RESCHEDULED: Free? Stories about Human Rights: Community Read Discussion
Date: August 29, 2017
Time: 6:00 pm
Place: Ulysses Philomathic Library Melvin Community Room
74 East Main Street, Trumansburg, NY
After an ill-timed power outage last Tuesday, we hope you will join us for a rescheduled discussion of our community read book, FREE? Stories about Human Rights. Copies can be picked up at UPL, and at various businesses around Trumansburg. If you have a copy that you have finished reading, please return it to the library, or give it to a friend who hasn’t read it yet!
We invite you to share your thoughts on this collection of short stories at the library on Tuesday, August 29 at 6pm. We will have a local Amnesty International representative in attendance, and additional materials from Youth for Human Rights International will be available to foster further discussion. If you are unable to attend this event, but wish to share your reflections, please do so in the discussion section of the Community Read Discussion event on the Ulysses Philomathic Library’s Facebook page.
Our community read is generously funded by the Myrtle Dee Nash Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.
Summer Reading Finale
Can you believe it is almost September already? We have had a great summer of reading and activities, which will culminate in a party this Saturday, August 26 at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel, across the street from the library at 10am. Children and their grownups are invited to join us for ice cream, and musical entertainment with Miss Angie!
Remember to bring in your reading logs and bingo sheets to the library this week so we can tally up how many books we read this summer!
Hope to see you on Saturday!
