The Ulysses Philomathic Library is currently showing the work of Marian Van Soest. From realistic imagery to experimentation with shapes, lines, color, and texture, Van Soest’s work reveals her personal connection to the natural world. Some pieces are fluid in watercolor medium while others feature real twigs and layers of thick, textured paint. Her abstract work gives the sense of landforms, one series in earth tones and another in vibrant, warm colors.
